Your Mind Needs to Recharge

Since many of you are going to be on vacation next week, I thought I would give this challenge for all the workaholics out there. I know that some of you may need to work while on vacation, but only do so if it's absolutely necessary. I used to work during vacations, and I know it's hard to stop. However, once I took real time off, I received many great ideas for my businesses during that off time. I had more energy, I was more productive, and I was excited to get back to work.

When you give your mind a break, you give it space to receive inspiration on how to be more creative, productive, or efficient at work. Think of a computer that starts slowing down because it has so many apps running. What do you do? You restart it, and everything runs smoothly again. This is what your mind needs to do, and vacation is your reboot.

I know we don't want a full inbox after vacation. Block out time in your calendar now to get in early or stay late to deal with emails when you get back. You'll have the energy because you'll be refreshed.

To the executives and managers out there, trust your team to get the job done while you're gone. You trained them well.

To the entrepreneurs out there, you deserve time off, and your business will be better for it. We need to stop this #nevernotworking attitude. It doesn't make us more successful (research says it doesn't). It only wears us out, and we lose out on epiphanies that can take our businesses to another level.

Have fun on your holiday, take time to rejuvenate, and don't think about work! This is your time to "play hard" so make sure you truly play.
